| || HSS Hire Service Group Ltd is a market-leader in the UK Tool Hire Industry. The company operates a nationwide chain of tool hire centres, ranging in size from small town centre shops to large warehouse units. The business structure is traditional retail distribution with a hub-and-spoke structure where larger units provide stock distribution and centralised services to satellite branches. The customer profile is orientated toward professional and industry service hirers and other larger account customers.
The HSS IT department manages, develops software and operates various services to support both front and back office functions.
The development technologies in use include MS SQL (SSiS & DTS), Actian Ingress (DB Layer), OpenROAD (Business Logic layer) and ASP.NET and C# for front end and UX. With data movement controlled via the Data Connect ETL tool. There are various external and in-house websites and intranets based on Microsoft ASP.NET and for e-commerce using the Hybris framework.
The strategic direction is to continue to move data and business logic into tiered layers and create reusable web service structures that allow agile development of tools & systems to support the fast-moving requirements of HSS.
SCOPE OF ROLE
•Part of an internal team developing and maintaining our highly customised Hybris E-Commerce platform
•Working with third party and internal junior resources as required
•Work together with the ecommerce team to define and realise business goals and targets
•Plan major & minor platform upgrades
•Development of test, trial, and demonstration software
•Installation, User testing and Release management
•Version control and full use of the software development life-cycle

•Java within the context of SAP’s Hybris e-commerce platform
•A passion for coding
•Ability to liaise with non technical business colleagues to derive their requirements which are then turned into technical solutions

•Technical understanding, experience, and skills in software development
•Ability to understand and convert a technical specification into quality code and working software
•Experience of the software project lifecycle, ideally within a retail environment
•Willing to adopt and champion best practice
