| || EDF Energy is a core part of the EDF Group and is one of the largest energy companies in Europe with key business operations in France, the UK, Germany and Italy. In the UK we have approximately 15,000 employees. We are the UK’s leading generator and supplier of low carbon energy. We produce about one-fifth of the nation’s electricity from our nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat and power plants. We have a focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence. We intend to play a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK and secure a ‘bright’ future for the combined business and its employees. |
| || Generating electricity is a huge responsibility, which is why we want experienced engineers to help us deliver this. From nuclear power stations to coal, gas and renewables, our work extends to the full energy mix. The roles we offer within each of those areas are every bit as diverse. At EDF Energy, we’re on a journey to change the way people use energy for generations to come. Producing low carbon energy is what we do best. And right now, our eight existing nuclear sites generate 9,000 megawatts per year through various reactors, avoiding emissions of over 40m tonnes of carbon dioxide. That’s the equivalent of taking about 60% of cars off our roads. Our thermal generation assets are our Cottam and West Burton stations. With almost 45 years of generation, our coal stations still have an important role to play – together with our new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) and Gas Storage Plants supporting an affordable and secure supply of electricity as the UK transitions to a low carbon economy. Our plan now is to secure strategic flexibility and maximise the long-term value of thermal energy within the EDF Energy portfolio. |
| || Your nuclear future starts here. This Civil Engineering programme will see you build your knowledge of all parts of our Generation and Nuclear New Build business, with support and training to take care of every aspect of your professional and personal development. |
| || Our industry’s evolving fast and moving in many new directions. On this programme we’ll spend time teaching you the basics, before you head back to your home department and we let you loose on the major challenge of our lifetime – shaping the energy industry of the future.
We’re proud to say this Graduate Programme is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) - a valuable seal of approval for your pathway to becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer.
| || You will be aware of the role that you will be taking up permanently in the organisation ahead of joining the graduate scheme. We will work with you to identify the department that best suits your skills and interest areas, and also the location where you will be based.
Once you get started you will spend the first 3 months of your graduate scheme based at your home location, getting to know your new team. This time will be interspersed with periods of residential training at our training centre near Gloucester. The next 8 months of your programme will be spent rotating around our Central Technical Organisation, Station Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Technical & Safety functions, so you’ll see how everything fits together.
During this time you will have the support of your line manager, a recent graduate buddy and a qualified Civil Engineering technical mentor.
When you’ve completed your initial 11 months’ training, you‘ll spend the final 5 months of the programme back in your home department, getting more experience and developing your skills ready to take on your permanent role. Once this period is complete you will take up a substantive role within this business area.
By the end of it, you’ll be ready to embark on a range of uniquely rewarding civil engineering careers – and well on the way to chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE).
